The Paris Observatory
The front of the Observatory is not as spectacular. The statue is of Urban J.J. Le Verrier, who is credited with (co) discovery of the existence of Neptune by calculating its position due to the effects it had on Uranus. The English say that John Couch Adams shares that claim. Getting the full story makes for some interesting Googling on a cloudy evening. Actual first sighting was in Germany based on Le Verrier's calculations.
